What is a Team Americano?
A Team Americano is for pairs who want to play together all tournament, not just one round. Sign up as a team of two and stay that team from the first match to the last: no rotating partners, no new faces to adjust to mid-tournament. What rotates instead is the opponent.
The schedule is a round robin: every team plays every other team exactly once, so a group of 4 teams plays 3 rounds and a group of 6 plays 5. Scoring moves with the team rather than the player: both partners add points to one shared total, which makes this the format for a duo who have played together for years, or two friends who would rather sink or swim as one unit than get reshuffled every round.
Round robins are simple in theory and fiddly to build by hand once byes and limited courts get involved. Form the teams
Sign up in fixed pairs of two. Two teams is the minimum, and the format scales cleanly as more teams join.
- Step 2
Draw the round robin
Every team is scheduled against every other team exactly once. With an odd number of teams, one sits out each round on a fair rotation.
- Step 3
Play each round to points
Every match runs to a fixed target, usually 16, 24 or 32 points. The result is added straight to the team running total.
- Step 4
Highest team total wins
After the last round, the team with the most combined points takes the day.
Scoring and ranking
Points work the same as any Americano, no sets or games, just a running total, except here the total belongs to the team, not the individual.
Points per match
Matches are played to a fixed total, commonly 16, 24 or 32 points, shared between both members of a team.
Ranking
Teams are ranked by combined points across every round. A shared scoreboard from the first round to the last.
Tiebreakers
Level totals are split by team point difference, then by team match wins.
Sit-outs
With an odd number of teams, one sits out each round, on a rotation that keeps it fair.
An example: 4 teams, 2 courts

How many teams do you need?

Do partners ever change?
No. Teams are fixed for the whole tournament, that is the point of the format: come as a pair, stay a pair.
How is the winner decided?
By combined team points across every round. Team point difference and team match wins break ties.
What happens with an odd number of teams?
One team sits out each round on a bye, rotated fairly so no team rests twice before every team has rested once.
How is this different from a Classic Americano?
In a Classic Americano players sign up alone and get a new partner every round. Here players sign up as a pair and keep that partner all tournament; opponents rotate instead.
