What is a Mixed Americano?
A Mixed Americano runs on the same idea as a Classic Americano: partners rotate every round and every point scored counts toward a personal total. One rule is added on top: every pair on court is always one man and one woman. Nobody signs up together; the schedule pairs players across rounds so each man partners a new woman and each woman partners a new man, with opponents spread out the same way.
That single rule changes the feel of the tournament without changing the scoring. It stays an individual competition: a partner’s game does not decide the ranking, the points both of you score together do. And because the pairing is gender-locked round to round, it stays balanced for club nights or groups where players want to mix rather than face the same few faces the whole session.
The trade-off is the draw itself: keeping every pair mixed while still rotating partners fairly is harder to plan than a normal Americano. How it works
From an even split of players to a winner in four steps.
- Step 1
Gather equal men and women
The same number of each is needed, and an even count on both sides. Four and four is the simplest starting point, and nobody sits out.
- Step 2
Draw the mixed rotation
Before the first serve, every round is set: which man partners which woman, who they face, and on which court. No pair repeats until the rotation completes.
- Step 3
Play each round to points
Every match runs to a fixed target, usually 16, 24 or 32 points. Both scores are noted at the end and count for each player individually.
- Step 4
Highest total wins
After the last round, the player with the most points takes the day, regardless of which partners got them there.
Scoring and ranking
Scoring works exactly like a Classic Americano: points only, no sets or games, and both players on a pair keep the same score.
Points per match
Matches are played to a fixed total, commonly 16, 24 or 32 points. Both team scores add up to that target.
Ranking
Players are ranked by total points scored across all their rounds, individually, not as a pair.
Tiebreakers
Level totals are split by point difference, then by match wins.
Sit-outs
If either group is not a clean multiple of 4, some players rest each round, always as few times as possible and shared fairly.

Mixed Americano FAQ
Do you need an equal number of men and women?
Yes. Mixed Americano requires the same count on both sides, and that count needs to be even, so 4 and 4, 6 and 6, or 8 and 8 are the numbers to aim for.
Can partners repeat before the rotation is done?
No, the draw is built so every man partners every woman exactly once before anyone repeats. With 4 men and 4 women that takes 4 rounds.
How is the winner decided?
By total individual points across every round, same as a Classic Americano. Point difference and match wins break ties.
What if we do not have an equal split?
The format needs it to keep every pair mixed. If the numbers are uneven, a Classic Americano rotates everyone regardless of gender.
How many points should a match be played to?
