What is a Mixed Mexicano?
A Mixed Mexicano runs the same live, standings-based rounds as a Classic Mexicano, with one rule added: every pair is always one man and one woman. After round 1’s random draw, men and women are ranked separately, and each round the top-ranked man is paired with the top-ranked woman, the second-ranked man with the second-ranked woman, and so on, before those mixed pairs are matched against each other by rank.
It keeps the two things players want from each format: the mixed, social pairing of a Mixed Americano, and the tightening, level-based matches of a Mexicano, without a fixed schedule dictating who partners whom before a ball has been hit.
Live re-pairing is where it gets genuinely hard to run by hand: ranking two separate lists and reshuffling every court after every round. PadelEasy does it the instant the last score of a round is in, so the next mixed pairing is always ready before players are back at the baseline.
How it works
From an even split of players to a running leaderboard in four steps.
- Step 1
Gather equal men and women
The same number of each is needed. Four and four is the simplest starting point, and there is no fixed limit beyond that.
- Step 2
Round 1 is a random draw
With no standings yet, the first round pairs players at random, always one man with one woman.
- Step 3
Every round after re-pairs by standings
Men and women are ranked separately; the top-ranked man partners the top-ranked woman, and so on, then those pairs are matched by rank.
- Step 4
Stop whenever you like
There is no built-in final round. Play as many rounds as the court time allows, then the leaderboard decides the winner.
Scoring and ranking
Scoring is points only, same as any Mexicano, and it stays individual even though pairs are always mixed.
Points per match
Matches are played to a fixed total, commonly 16, 24 or 32 points.
Ranking
Players are ranked by total points scored so far, and that ranking is exactly what decides the pairs for the next round.
Tiebreakers
Level totals are split by point difference, then by match wins.
Sit-outs
If either group does not divide evenly into courts, some pairs rest each round, rotated fairly.
An example: how the standings redraw the pairs
This is a real sequence produced by the PadelEasy engine. Men and women are ranked separately, and each round’s pairs come straight from that ranking.
Round 1 is random since there are no standings yet. From round 2 on, PadelEasy re-ranks the men and women separately and re-pairs them by standing, so partners change with the leaderboard, not by chance.
Mixed Mexicano FAQ
Do you need an equal number of men and women?
Yes, the same count on both sides, and it needs to be even, so 4 and 4, 6 and 6 or 8 and 8 are the numbers to aim for.
How are the mixed pairs chosen each round?
Men and women are ranked separately by points. The top-ranked man partners the top-ranked woman, the second-ranked pair up together, and so on, then those pairs are matched against each other by rank.
How many rounds does it last?
As many as wanted, there is no built-in final round. Players stop when court time runs out and the standings decide the winner.
How is the winner decided?
By total individual points across every round played, same as any Mexicano. Point difference and match wins break ties.
What is the difference between this and Mixed Americano?
A Mixed Americano draws the whole rotation before play starts. Here nothing is fixed upfront; pairs are redrawn from the standings after every round.
